Storefront Light Box
Client/Employer: Cliffside Village Books
Completed: July 2019
My Role: Designer
Cliffside Village Books is an independently owned second hand bookstore in the heart of the Cliffside neighbourhood in southern Scarborough. The owner Genevieve was looking for a new sign to update her storefront. I worked with her to create an updated, on brand, sign that would make the store look great and stand out amongst her neighbours.
Genevieve was looking for an updated sign that would fit the look and feel of not only her existing brand but also the feel of her store. She was looking for a sign that utilized the same font as her logo and the labels of the genres inside the store.
Utilizing the same font used in her logo I designed a 2ft by 11ft light box sign. The sign would be placed on the front of a strip plaza along a very busy stretch of Kingston Road with a southern exposure. Although the client initially asked to have a white sign with black text I also designed a version that was reversed white text on a black background as this would remain legible for a longer period of time even once the sign begins to fade. The simple colour scheme also helped the store stand out from its neighbours, both using black text with bright backgrounds.
